Mini-MOGO Project #1: Helping the Natural World

Charley and Michael help build a Permaculture garden as part of our first Mini-MOGO ProjectThe three basic “tenets” of Portland’s MOGO Group are social connection, providing a support system for those wanting to journey toward a more humane life, and to serve our local and global communities. In support of this latter tenet, we’ve decided to implement Mini-MOGO Projects — simple ways of helping out in the community.

Our first Mini-MOGO Project was to do something to help the natural world, whether pulling ivy, planting trees, picking up trash, or some other activity. MOGO members Charley and Michael decided to help create a permaculture garden at Madison High School.

Our May Mini-MOGO Project focuses on volunteering for NW VEG’s VegFest, which is May 10. We have several other tasty projects planned for the future, including a “reverse” trick-or-treat in October to educate others about the connection between chocolate and slavery and to promote fair trade chocolate, and the Walk for Farm Animals in September to benefit Farm Sanctuary, a national education, advocacy and rescue group for farmed animals.
