Green National Parks will soon be the new black (with pollution) – Washington Post – 5/16/08
Enjoy the clean, fresh air in our National Parks while you can. The Bush administration is about to change the regulations for the Clean Air Act, which will lesson air quality protections near national parks and make way for coal-fired power plants near them. (Thanks Grist for the heads up.)
Polar Bear protected…sort of - New York Times – 5/15/08
The good news is, that the polar bear will FINALLY be listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act, which means some protections, like hunters not being able to import hides or other parts from bears killed in Canada. Yay! (I thinK?) The bad news is, we’re not going to do much of anything to protect the bears’ habitat, so this action doesn’t really mean a whole lot.

The Governor of Colorado just signed a bill into law that will phase out the use of veal and gestation crates in Colorado. This new law will affect the lives of about 150,000 farmed animals. The phase out will take 4 years for veal crates and 10 years for gestation crates and sets the stage for discussions about battery cages.
