What’s ubiquitous, proliferates faster than bunnies and bad rumors and is helping to smother the planet? Those lovely plastic bags! A friend forwarded me a Macromedia Flashpaper Slideshow (cool tool!) from the Pocono Record called “The Dangers of Plastic Bags.” Check it out for interesting little tidbits (such as that between 500 and a TRILLION plastic bags are used each year worldwide), sad photos of those evil plastic bags suffocating wildlife and generally wreaking havoc, and a little good news about who’s banning the little buggers.
And, if you need suggestions about what to use instead, the Treehugging Family has become downright bag-obsessed this month, featuring all manner of reusable bags (and now baskets) available for helping carry your stuff.
Portland MOGO has talked about a campaign to ban plastic bags (or at least make them cost something) here in Portland. If you know of a Portland group already working on such a plan, let us know.
